Spacebridge to celebrate the Day of Science

February 6, 2009

Three universities of Moscow, Sochi and Tiraspol participated in a teleconference on the threshold of the Day of Science. The Russian New University (RosNOU) represented Moscow, the Transnistrian State University after the name of Taras G. Shevchenko (TSU) represented Tiraspol, and the city of Sochi was represented by the Sochi State University of Tourism and Health Resort Business (SSUT/HRB). Professor Vladimir A. Minaev, pro-rector of RosNOU for education issues, said in his opening speech: “It comes as no surprise that we are speaking about science on the threshold of the Day of Science. On this wonderful day I congratulate all those for who the word “Science” means much more than simply a highbrow modern word”.

Professor Eugenie A. Palkin, pro-rector for innovative education and research, said: “I believe there has arisen a new opportunity for science in today’s world. In fact the financing of scientific research is being markedly enhanced, the government is aware that scientific research can facilitate our overcoming the current economic crisis”. All the parties participating in the spacebridge devote themselves to scientific efforts. The three-sided acquaintance with innovative activities of these universities demonstrated that there are good prospects of cooperation for them.

Professor Galina M. Romanova, the acting rector of SSUT/HRB, pro-rector for scientific research, said: “We are involved in medical research and we also use endo-ecological rehabilitation methods applied in RosNOU. But it is just during this teleconference that we learn about the device «Cardiocode». We are interested in collaboration with RosNOU as we want Sochi to be not only a beach resort. We are willing to turn the city into a prominent sanatorium-and-spa resort».

Professor Stepan I. Berill, rector of TSU said: “Although the Pridnestrovian Republic ceased to be a part of Russia, we feel we are closely connected with Russian scientific and education institutions. That’s why we are interested in cooperation with Russian scientists. Researchers of TSU are engaged in nanotechnology experiments, but unfortunately their developments are not implemented. The situation in the Russian New University is different. We would like our Moscow colleagues to share their experience with us, which could be very useful».

At the end of the event, the participants of the spacebridge stated that such interactive communication can introduce a lot of new opportunities for scientific and research cooperation. They also welcomed an idea of arranging an academic and research videoconference suggested by the representatives of Sochi University.
