10 points concerning the hostel of RosNOU

April 8, 2009

Only a few higher education institutions in Moscow can provide their students with a hostel. RosNOU is one of them. RosNOU students are lucky to have an opportunity of dwelling in a very good new hostel of the University.

1. Premises

The hostel of RosNOU is located not far from the metro-station “Aviamotornaya”. It is a 6 storey brick building which was completely reconstructed in the summer of 2004. There are 10 blocks on each floor except the upper on, the so called “short” floor, which has only 4 blocks. Every block consists of 2 rooms and a lavatory. The building is being guarded by security guards.

2. Administration

Galina Antonovna Chelnokova is the superintendent of the hostel. She is responsible for solving every problem that may arise. All contracts signed with those who dwell in the hostel bear her signature. She deals with lodging of students and so on. The superintendent is available at the premises from 10 a.m. till 18 p.m. every week day (except week-ends).

Four assistant managers help Galina Antonovna Chelnokova, the superintendent, to keep order in the hostel. They work in shifts.

3. Payment

Payment for dwelling in the hostel is effected either monthly (with a special permission granted) or in advance for a term of 6 months. It can be effected in the right wing of the hostel.

There are different types of rooms — for 5, 4, 3 and 2 persons. The prices of dwelling in the rooms are, respectively, - 4,000, 4,500, 5,500, and 8,000 roubles.

There are also some guest rooms used only occasionally. For example, if the parents of a student, dwelling in the hostel, come to visit him or her and there are no hotel rooms available for them to stay. The daily payment for such a room is 450 roubles.

Payment for external students who stay in the hostel temporarily is estimated in the following way: a monthly payment for a room is divided into the number of days a student stays in the hostel.

4. Accommodation quarters

First: cleanliness is the guarantee of health! The hostel was overhauled thoroughly not so long ago.Second: Effective learning depends to a great extent on

how comfortable the place of residence is.

Every room is furnished with beds, wardrobes, bedside-tables, refrigerators, and microwave stoves. Students are allowed to bring their own Irons, hair-dryers and other domestic appliances for personal use. With the permission of the superintendent hostel residents can add some extra shelves, place carpets on the floor and photographs on the walls.

There is a canteen and a snake bar in the hostel, open every week from Monday through Friday (from 10:00 – till 18:30). Prices are quite reasonable.

In case one is interested in “experimenting with individual cooking”, there is a common kitchen area, if clothes need washing or cleaning, there is a laundry. So, there are all essentials available.

5. Student community

Who makes your company is very important, especially in the hostel. While a student is selecting a room to be accommodated in, he or she is asked about the people, he would like to share his or her room with. One is expected to tell the truth concerning his or her habits and preferences. It is also no good saying that you don’t care. In case something does not suit a student or the room-mates turn to be too noisy, he or she may certainly move but it’s better to consider beforehand whether one came to get education or to have fun non-stop.

6. What a student may do

  • A student may invite guests to his or her room, but visitors are all allowed to come only after 10:00 a.m. and stay not longer than till 22:00 p.m. To be admitted any guest must produce his or her identity card.
  • With the room locked, one may be sure that the room and everything in it is quite safe. Every student, residing in the block, has a key of his own. Every floor is equipped with video cameras.
  • A student may keep some food and products.
  • Smoking is allowed only in a specially arranged smoking-room.
  • There are sporting and fitness facilities in the hostel where a student gets an opportunity of going in for sports after classes.

7. What is prohibited

  • A student must observe the rules, set by the administration of the hostel. When admitted to the hostel, a student always gets acquainted with these rules. Breaking the rules results in the eviction of one who commits a breach of the peace.
  • Bringing and taking strong drinks or drugs is strictly forbidden.
  • If any appliance or equipment in the hostel stops working a student should immediately inform a manager on duty and fill in a special application form with a request for repairing the broken appliance, which is free of charge.
  • Boys and girls are not allowed to dwell in one and the same room, with the exception of married couples who study externally and come to take their exams. They stay in a specially arranged guest rooms within the period of their examination session.

8. Shopping places nearest to the hostel

The hostel is located very conveniently, close to the metro-station with a supermarket not far from it. A shopping moll named “Gorod” (including a supermarket “Ashan”) can be seen from the windows of the hostel rooms. It will take you no more than 20 minutes to get to that place where you will find everything you need.

There are Lefortovskiy market-place, two Internet-cafes, a fitness-centre, some branch banks, several snack-bars and three parks in the vicinity of the metro-station.

9. Leisure time

While in the hostel you can do anything you want if it’s not forbidden by the rules.

Some students bring musical instruments with them from their homes, some are busy with their computers, the others are fond of snowboarding or roller-skating. There are students who grow plants and flowers or keep pets like rats, rabbits or hamsters.

10. How to get to the hostel

You can get to the RosNOU hostel from the metro-station “Aviamotornaya” by a shuttle minibus. The fare is 18 roubles. Scheduled trips start at 8 a.m. The last minibus from the hostel starts at 21:30 p.m. and the last one from the metro station to the hostel runs at 22:00 p.m. On week days the intervals are about 15 minutes, on week-ends and holidays the interval between minibuses is 30 minutes.
