“The majority of you will have a very successful life!”

September 9, 2009

The beginning of a new academic year in the Russian New University turned to be remarkably merry and vivid with inspiration of the young. All the students enjoyed festive mood while a brass band welcomed them at the entrance of the University.

Senior students were eagerly telling each other about their summer holidays and cheerfully singing a jazz version of the popular song “Smuglyanka” to the accompaniment of the band.

First year students received a special welcome: in the Malachite hall of the University they were greeted by the RosNOU administration.

Boris I. Antsiz, head of the teaching and methods department of RosNOU, opened the event. Adressing the first year students Boris Il’ych said: “You are now mature enough to ask yourself: “What did I come on the scene for? What can I do to make the world a better place?” - While studying at our University, you will acquire, knowledge, attainments and skills necessary to make your own life and that of the people around you better.”

His speech made a great impression on the first year students.

Vladimir A. Zernov, rector of Rosnou, who is the head of the Non-government Universities Association, said greeting the first year students:

“I’m glad to have an opportunity to greet my colleagues here at the University. I say that we are colleagues, because if you don’t study, you not only stop, but even retreat as far as intellectual development is concerned. I wish you had very productive years studying at our University. If education is interesting, it can’t be easy. You should use every opportunity our University can offer you: our library, teaching and methods facility, and the possibility of communication with prominent lecturers, which is the most important thing. Many of them are well known scientists.”

Doctor of Technology, Professor Vladimir Kinelyov, a member of the Russian Academy of Education and director of the UNESCO Information Technologies Institute, greeted the students. He said: “I wish this day could last as long as possible. I wish you remembered the event. I am sure, it is the very first day at the University that you will recollect as the years pass by and you gain more and more experience. I don’t doubt that the majority of you will have a very successful life, because you’ve chosen one of the best Russian universities to study at.”

The RosNOU KVN team “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” greeted the first year students who enjoyed their songs, jokes and sketches full of life and positive feelings. After the performance the first year students went to their departments to meet the deans and their lecturers.

The popular Russian saying goes: “What the coming year will be depends very much on the way you celebrate the New Year’s Eve”. We wish the first year at our University were quite productive and full of various important and cheerful events for those who became RosNOU students.
