Universities of Russia and Transdniestria will set up an Open University
On September 1st during the RosNOU space bridge the Transdniestrian State University (TSU) and the Far Eastern National University reached an agreement to set up an open university.
Doctor of Technology, Professor Vladimir Kinelyov, a member of the Russian Academy of Education, said: “There is a feeling as if we were all together in the same auditorium. It’s wonderful that science is provided with an integral space uniting universities that are located so far away from each other.” In 1993-1996 Professor Kinelyov was the Russian Minister of Education and currently he is the director of the UNESCO Information Technologies Institute. “It means that every student, post-graduate student or teacher will have an opportunity to see the best examples of knowledge” he added.
The space bridge participants approved unanimously the ex-Education Minister’s idea to provide an equal access for those who seek to get scientific knowledge, education and its technologies. Stepan Beril, rector of the Transdniestrian Shevchenko State University, said that the first steps on the path to the idea’s implementation have already been made. Last year a Russian Education and Science Centre was set up on the basis of the TSU. Six of the biggest Russian universities have already launched joint educational programs in specialities of current importance for Transdniestria. The TSU rector is sure that it is very important to get prominent Russian scientists to take part in the process of qualifying competent professionals for Transdniestrian scientific institutions and its industry.
Vladimir Kurilov, rector of the Far Eastern National University, reminded his colleagues about the Soviet period when universities were exchanging their best students and post-graduates. He is sure that it would be productive to resume this tradition with the view of new technologies that become an essential part of modern educational process.
Vladimir Zernov, rector of the Russian New University, brought forward an idea of promoting universities’ achievements and innovative developments. Nanotubes produced in RosNOU laboratory of carbon nanomaterials represent a concrete example of such developments. They are considered to be among the best quality nanotubes in the world.
Vladimir Zernov said: “Dear collegues and friends, let’s get to know scientific achievements which, I’m sure, each of our universities can be proud of. I suggest that we shall arrange it as soon as possible. — Let’s cooperate in implementing our scientific ideas. Our country has always been strong exactly due to this unity!”
