Panel discussion «Development of mediation in Russia» held in Obninsk

A panel discussion «Development of mediation in Russia» organized by the Inter-regional union of mediators (IUM) and Obninsk branch of RosNOU was held in the Academics’ House in Obninsk, the Kaluga region.

Valery Sudarenkov, member of the education and science committee of the Council of Federation of Russian Federation in the Kaluga region, head of the Union for the development of naukograds (science cities) in Russia, greeted the participants and pointed out the importance and urgency of the issue discussed. He also mentioned the practical orientation of mediation in different sorts of activities as an alternative way to solve disputes. Valery Sudarenkov spoke about the role of RosNOU in making mediation more popular and training professionals in the Kaluga region.

The participants of the panel discussion agreed that the implementation of mediation practice would be useful and necessary; they also set the major targets to be achieved in this direction. Valentin Skachkov, head of Obninsk branch of RosNOU, told the participants that groups of students studying mediation were actually being formed. The program “Basics of mediation” starts in September.
