Vladimir Zernov: «We do not want to be confronted with state universities»
On Friday, 20, the conference of the management of the Russian non-government universities took place in the Russian New University (RosNOU).
Alexander Degterev, Head of the Russian State Duma Committee on Education, Grigory Balykin, Member of the «United Russia» fraction, Oleg Smolin, Member of the Russian State Duma, Galina Okorokova, Member of the Russian Public Chamber, Lev Zaks, Rector of the Humanitarian University, Member of the Russian Council of Rectors, the chairman of the Council of Rectors of private higher educational institutions of the Sverdlovsk region, including rectors from other non-governmental universities and representatives from non-profit organizations of Russia took part in the meeting.
The participants discussed the results of the 2011 season and outlined strategic focuses for 2012. Among the goals Oleg Smolin set for the possibility of students to vote for the admission quotas and their compliance with the State Educational Standards of Higher Professional Education.
According to Vladimir Zernov, Rector of RosNOU and Chairman of the Russian Non-governmental Academies Association, there is a strong opposition from the Russian Rector’s Union to some legislation amendments concerning the state funding for the non-governmental universities.
“We do not want to be confronted with the state universities. Nobody is against the effective competition, though everybody is against the competitors”, said Valdimir Zernov..
Evgeny Minninbaev, Rector of the Eastern University of Economics, Humanities, Management and Law, thanked all the representatives of The Non-governmental Universities of the Higher Professional Education for their active law making job in the sphere of education and awarded them with the letters of gratitude from the Russian State Duma Committee on Education.
