A conference of the International Public Committee of Work with Foreign Students was held in the Moscow State Academy of Law (MSAL) on October 23. The participants of the conference discussed major issues related to the life of foreigners who came to get education in Russia and, in particular, in Moscow. There were several issues on the agenda: special events arranged for foreign students, an opportunity, proposed by the Committee, of studying at the International School of Youth Diplomacy (at the Moscow State University of Foreign Relations) and participating in the Theatre of Tolerance. A project of the Center for Legal Support is under way in cooperation with the St. Petersburg State University.

Henoc de Santiago, attache for Culture, and Rodrigo Azaola, head of the Economy and Trade Office, met N. Morosova, Dean of RosNOU Business Technology in Tourist and Travel Industry Department, L. Androsova, Vice-dean of the Department, A. Birykova, Head of the International Education Centre, and G. Gabrielyan, RosNOU International Education Programs manager.

The parties discussed prospects of cooperation between RosNOU and the universities of Quintana-Roo State (the city of Cancun). The goal of the cooperation is to train high-skilled managers who would be able to represent the region at the Russian tourist market. The possibility of developing a joint tourist industry education program together with the leading universities of Cancun is currently under consideration.

The meeting resulted in an agreement to arrange a lecture about historical and tourist resources of Mexico in RosNOU in the nearest future. Members of the Embassy are expected to lecture in Spanish.

Researchers of the Russian New University (RosNOU) presented the purest multi-layer carbon nanotubes at the International Nanotechnological Forum “Rusnanotech 2009”. The level of purity of these nanotubes is up to 99% which is considered to be of the highest in the world.

On October 16^th within the framework of cooperation between RosNOU and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (I2IT) based in Allahabad, Dr. Abhishek Vaish and Dr. Shirshu Varma, lecturers of I2IT, conducted a workshop on information security problems for students of the RosNOU Information Systems and Computer Technology Department.

The issues considered included the following:

•  Information security management system;
•  Review of information security management facilities;
•  Procedure and strategy of information security set up;
•  Criminal actions and investigations in the information technology area.

The workshop was arranged by the International Unit of RosNOU. The working language of the event was English.

On October 14^th a space bridge between the Russian New University (RosNOU) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (I²IT) was arranged for the first time. The heads of both universities met to discuss a number of programs that are to become a basis for their future cooperation.

On September 1st during the RosNOU space bridge the Transdniestrian State University (TSU) and the Far Eastern National University reached an agreement to set up an open university.

Doctor of Technology, Professor Vladimir Kinelyov, a member of the Russian Academy of Education, said: “There is a feeling as if we were all together in the same auditorium. It’s wonderful that science is provided with an integral space uniting universities that are located so far away from each other.”

The Russian New University is ready to start working on a large-scale programme to help Moscow region businesses on the verge of bankruptcy to overcome the crisis. This was a statement made by Vladimir Zernov, RosNOU rector and the regional curator of the “National innovative system” project, at the meeting of the Moscow Regional affiliate of the “Edinaya Rossiya” party.

The beginning of a new academic year in the Russian New University turned to be remarkably merry and vivid with inspiration of the young. All the students enjoyed festive mood while a brass band welcomed them at the entrance of the University.

Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA) hosts an international symposium «Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium» (PIERS). PIERS is one of the most authoritative world forums in the course of which developments and achievements of theoretical and applied electrodynamics are discussed. Such forums have been held for two decades already.

A PricewaterhouseCoopers presentation was held at the Russian New University (RosNOU). After the presentation senior students of Finance, Management and Economics Department were tested. There were several tests arranged in stages.

As a result six prospective graduates who showed the best results were offered their first jobs at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
